Arnold Transit Company Welcomes the LaSalle Back to Service

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing safe, clean, and on-time ferry service to Mackinac Island, Arnold Transit Company is proud to announce the return of the LaSalle to the water following an extensive improvement project.

Originally built in 1983, the LaSalle is named after French explorer Robert LaSalle, who famously journeyed down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico. His arrival in St. Ignace in 1679 aboard the Griffin—the first ship to sail the Great Lakes—makes the vessel’s name especially meaningful to our region. Today, the LaSalle proudly carries up to 150 passengers per trip.

Thanks to a major investment by Hoffmann Family of Companies, the LaSalle has undergone significant upgrades to enhance the guest experience and ensure long-term reliability.

These improvements include:

  • New fuel-efficient engines
  • Rebuilt transmission system
  • Upgraded control system
  • New windows
  • Freshly sandblasted and repainted hull
  • All-new passenger seating
  • Enhanced LED navigation lights

These enhancements are part of a broader initiative to modernize Arnold’s iconic fleet while preserving the charm and history that define our service.

We believe your Mackinac Island adventure begins the moment you step aboard. That’s why we’re investing in every detail—from engines to seating—to ensure your journey is safe, comfortable, and memorable.

The LaSalle is just one of many vessels receiving attention as Arnold continues to elevate its fleet, enhance operations, and restore pride in this historic service to the Island—serving guests since 1878.
