Each summer, hundreds of sailboats leave the skyline of Chicago behind and head north across Lake Michigan on a journey steeped in history, adrenaline, and pure Great Lakes spirit.

 

The Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac is the oldest and most prestigious freshwater sailing race in the world. Since 1898, it has drawn competitive sailors from around the globe to test their skills, endurance, and teamwork over 333 nautical miles to Mackinac Island. This year’s race kicks off on Saturday, July 19, and will crescendo on Mackinac Island by Tuesday, July 22, as crews cross the finish line and celebrations begin.
