Arnold Transit Company Completes Major Upgrade to Historic Straits of Mackinac II

ST. IGNACE, Mich. — Arnold Transit Company is proud to announce the completion of a significant propulsion and control system upgrade aboard the historic Straits of Mackinac II, ensuring the continued operation of one of the company’s most iconic vessels for years to come.

The project included the installation of new John Deere 6135 marine engines, all-new vessel controls, a refresh of the vessel’s engine room paint and finishes, and a refurbished pilot house completed by one of Arnold’s own captains, whose woodworking craftsmanship helped restore and preserve the vessel’s classic character. While maintaining the authentic passenger experience that generations have enjoyed, the upgrades provide modern reliability, efficiency, and performance both above and below deck.

The project replaces engines that had faithfully powered the vessel for decades, marking one of the most significant mechanical investments in the vessel’s recent history.
