WINTER TICKET FAQS

What is a Winter Surcharge Ticket?

A winter surcharge ticket is a sprinkle of ferry magic because winter rides sail to different winds (and a different fare). If you’re holding onto a 2025 Traditional Fast Ferry summer ticket (or commuter ticket) that has never set sail, this special ticket lets you “upgrade” it into a winter use ticket so you can ride the ferry when the snowflakes fall. See our ticket office to purchase a winter surcharge ticket. Just present your valid summer ATCo ticket along with the Winter Surcharge Ticket and hop aboard for a trip to Mackinac Island.

Does My 2025 Arnold Season Pass require a Winter Surcharge Ticket?

Your 2025 Arnold Season Pass already carries the winter enchantment within it, no surcharge required. Just show your pass, and the ferry shall welcome you, snowflakes and all.

Can I use my 2025 Shepler’s RESIDENT pass for Arnold Transit Company’s 2025-2026 Winter Service?

Shepler’s resident pass can be used, but it requires the $5 winter surcharge ticket for each 1-way passage.

Can I use my 2025 Shepler’s seasonal, commuter or regular ticket for Arnold Transit Company’s 2025-2026 Winter Service?

Shepler’s 2025 seasonal, commuter, and regular tickets cannot be used for Arnold Transit Company’s 2025–2026 Winter Service. You will need to purchase an Arnold Transit Company ticket to ride during the winter season.

Can I use my 2025-2026 Winter Commuter or Standard Tickets in the 2026 Summer?

You bet! Your 2025–2026 Winter Standard and Commuter Tickets will happily sail you into the 2026 summer sun. But take note, no refunds or exchanges will take place in exchange for converting Winter tickets to Summer Tickets. All 2025/ 2026 winter tickets will be set to expire October 31, 2026.

Can I use my 2025 Summer Traditional Fast Ferry or Commuter Tickets in the 2025-2026 Winter?

Your 2025 Traditional Fast Ferry and Commuter Tickets will work this winter with the purchase of a $10 winter surcharge ticket ($5 each way) .

Can I use a 2025 Summer Season Classic Ticket with a Winter Surcharge Ticket?

Alas, Summer’s St Ignace Classic Ferry Tickets cannot don a winter coat—even with a surcharge winter surcharge ticket. The Classic Ferry experience (and tickets) have a limited schedule and offering and only sail in the summer sunshine. Sorry, this ticket cannot be used with a winter surcharge ticket for winter service.

Can I buy an annual pass for the rest of the season at a prorated amount?

Sorry sailors, annual passes cannot be snipped, trimmed, or sold at a prorated price.

Can I get a refund on my tickets if ice conditions stop the Winter Ferry Service?

No refunds hide beneath the ice but fret not! Your 2025-2026 Winter Service tickets will carry you across the waves all the way through October 31, 2026.

WINTER PARKING FAQs

I am working on a project on Mackinac Island this winter and traveling over on Monday and back home on Friday. Where do I park?

You have a couple of options for 2025-2026 Winter Service Commuter Parking:

  1. If you are purchasing 2025-2026 Winter commuter tickets or have a Pass you can obtain a free commuter parking pass valid for daily or overnight parking at the Railroad Dock Lot. Limited shuttle service is available from the Railroad Lot to the Classic dock where the Winter Boat departs. See our Ticket Office for these passes.
  2. Want to park closer to the dock? You can purchase ($40 month) a pass for the McGreggor Lot and walk right up to the boat. See our Ticket Office for these passes.
  3. You can also purchase daily/ overnight parking in the McGreggor Lot via our convenient onsite QR codes posted in the lots for $10 per day and $20 per night. This option is available in the McGreggor Lot.

Can I park at an Arnold Transit Parking Lot without a parking permit?

If you are day parking only at the Classic Lot, no registration is required. All other vehicles parking in Arnold Transit Lots need a valid parking permit or can register for day or overnight parking by using the QR codes posted in the McGreggor Lot. For more details, please visit one of our ticket offices where staff will be happy to assist in making sure you have a pass or valid daily/ overnight parking.

Sometimes I drive a different vehicle to the docks. Can I use the same pass for different vehicles?

Each Arnold Transit pass is connected to a license plate and parking lot so your pass won’t transfer from one vehicle to another depending on what vehicle you bring for the day. All Arnold Transit Parking Passes are license plate and lot location specific.

I got a new car during the year. Do I need a new pass?

If you get a new vehicle and want to transfer your pass to a new vehicle, no problem. Come into the office and our staff will transfer to a new license plate number at no charge.

I purchased a 2025 pass for Mackinaw City in the Summer and want to park St Ignace in the Winter. Can I change what lot I park in?

Arnold’s parking is lot specific, however there are a limited number of spots available this winter in St Ignace that 2025 Mackinaw City parkers can transfer to for the 2025- 2026 winter service only. Please contact our ticket office for more details.

I purchased a 2025 pass for the secured parking in the LaSalle Lot in St Ignace. Can I use this for the 2025-2026 Winter Service?

During the 2025-2026 Winter Service the LaSalle Lot in St Ignace is not plowed. To avoid being snowed in vehicles can move to the Railroad Lot, or winter parking can be purchased at the McGreggor Lot next to the dock for the 2025-2026 Winter Service.

Is there 2025-2026 Winter Secured Parking available in St Ignace?

For the 2025-2026 Winter Service there are a limited number of indoor secured valet spots available for $1200 (November 1, 2025 through April 20, 2026). The Winter Service parking at Railroad Lot, Classic Lot and McGreggor Lot is unsecured.

I paid for a spot at the Railroad Lot for the 2025 season. Can I stay there for the 2025-2026 Winter Service?

Yes you can! Your 2025 Railroad lot parking pass is valid until April 20, 2026 in the Railroad Lot.

Will the Winter Boat wait for me while I park my car?

We always try to make sure all travelers have boarded the boat before it departs, but once the clock strikes the departure time and the staff pulls the ramp the boat will depart to maintain the schedule. Our shuttles have limited capacity and start their shuttle service 30 minutes before the first departure time. If you are a last minute traveler, we recommend purchasing a pass in the McGreggor Lot to park at the dock so you can walk right up to the boat and catch your planned departure time.

Will the Shuttle Run all winter?

In the event Winter Ice Conditions do not permit safe passage of the Arnold Transit Ferry for more than 5 days, Arnold Transit will temporally suspend shuttle service (after the 5th day) until Ferry Service is able to resume.
