ISLAND TIME, AUTUMN STYLE

Fall is one of the most rewarding times to experience Mackinac Island — fewer crowds, crisp weather, and a pace that lets you soak in the magic. Here are some highlights (adapted from our friends at MackinacIsland.org )

EXPLORE ISLAND HISTORY

Step back in time at Fort Mackinac, climb to Fort Holmes for sweeping views, or wander the Richard & Jane Manoogian Art Museum and Biddle House & Native American Museum. Most sites remain open through September, with reduced hours after Labor Day.

GET OUTDOORS

September weather is made for adventure. Bike the shoreline, hike forested trails, play a round of golf, or take to the water. The Island’s natural beauty is on full display as the colors change.

TAKE A CARRIAGE RIDE

Nothing says “Mackinac” like the clip-clop of horses. Carriage tours run through October, though hours are reduced later in the season.

SHOP DOWNTOWN

From classic Mackinac Island fudge to cozy apparel, art, and souvenirs, shops stay open until the last ferry departs. It’s the perfect time to find a keepsake or early holiday gift.

DINE & LISTEN

While a few outdoor-only eateries wind down in September, most restaurants remain open through October. Many spots feature live music and late-night menus — you’ll always find a place to end your evening on a high note.

STAY THE NIGHT

Want the Island nearly to yourself? September and October bring lower lodging rates and fewer bookings, making fall one of the best times to stay overnight. Most hotels close at the end of October, so plan your getaway before the season ends.
